New Jersey marriage license guide

How to get a marriage license in New Jersey

New Jersey charges a flat $28 statewide and imposes a 72-hour waiting period from application to issuance (waived for remarriages of the same couple). The license is valid for 30 days. NJ residents must apply in the municipality where either party lives; non-residents apply where the ceremony will occur. One witness age 18+ is required at the application and one at the ceremony. New Jersey abolished common-law marriage in 1939.
